the cottage is situated in the center of the picturesque
village of uffington, on the outskirts of the historic
georgian town of stamford.
famed for its classic architecture, stamford has
over 600 listed buildings built mostly of stone and
topped with local collyweston slate. amongst these
are the Old Stamford Hotel with its impressive facade
of columns (now converted into an arcade of boutiques),
Browne's Hospital in the Broad Street and each of
the five churches within the town center.
the town grew to prominence as a resting point for
coach travellers, being situated midway between london
and york on the great north road. the most impressive
attraction is undoubtedly Burghley House, the elizabethan
mansion built for william cecil.
