uffington is strung along
the northern side of the A16 just outside of stamford.
like so many villages these days, it is a mix of old
and new housing. the old section of the village lines
the main road and occupies the area around the village
church. the village grew up supporting two different
estates; uffington park (whose main house was burnt
down in 1904) and casewick hall.
being so close to stamford,
amenities within the village are limited. but it does
boast one of the best pubs in the region in the Bertie
Arms. this is a two minute walk from the cottage and
is a wonderful thatched building, with low ceilings
and real log fires. the clientele are a mix of locals
from the village popping in for a quick drink and visitors
from further a field, making the trip for the ever popular
selection of meals on the menu.
